I rarely read books about vampires, but I do love a good vampire movie or book once in awhile. Now, these vampires who are Catholics and serve the Vatican’s Knight of the Templar, and is tasked with saving the world from Legion and Lucifer, are my kinda vampires.

The Sanguines series is an intriguing trilogy, one filled with love, action, religion, supernatural mystery, apocalyptic prophecy, salvation, and damnation.

Now in the final installment of The Order of the Sanguines, we see the heroes return: The Knight of Christ, Father Rhun Korza; The Warrior of Man, Jordan Stone and the Woman of Learning, Erin Granger. The Countess Elizabeth Bathory joins the trio to help them in their journey. In the books, Elizabeth Bathory is also a historical figure, known as one of the most prolific serial killers of her time.

You will enjoy her (Elizabeth Bathory) part of the story in this series. There’s a fascinating addition to the story as well, a lion cub, his name is Nebuchadnezzar.

Erin Granger is the keeper of the Blood Gospel and it is her job to keep it safe and to decipher how she and the rest are going to stop the demon Legion whose appearance may presage Lucifer’s escape.

After an escalating number of grisly murders, occur across the globe. The trio must race across the globe from the Vatican, Egypt, Czech Republic, France, Nepal and else where; chased by the deadly Strigoi creatures that possess unnatural super strength and superb fighting skills.

The search for the key to salvation will take Erin and the others across centuries and around the world, from the dusty shelves of the Vatican’s secret archives to lost medieval laboratories, where ancient alchemies were employed to horrific ends.

Along with these creatures, is Lucifer himself. Jeeze! Can it get any worse? In order to save the world and themselves, they must find a way to keep Lucifer shackled. Because the chalice has already fallen into his hands (Lucifer), before whom even the walls of the Vatical will fall.

The Strigoi are the evil side of the vampires, they feed on humans, while the vampire priests and nuns called Sanguinists, who have accepted Christ and so survive on the blood of Christ, a special wine. Well, you’re just going to have to read the books to find out all about it.

As with the previous two books; The Blood Gospel and Innocent Blood, there are historical figures, as well as figures from the bible. The Alchemist John Dee who worked with the Holy Emperor Rudolf II; Lazarus, brought back from the dead by Jesus; Jugues de Payens, he was deemed the one that created the Catholic order known as the Knights Templar with the help of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux.

Siwa, Egypt

Like a crow hunting a buried worm, Rhun cocked his head, narrowing his focus to one point in the sand. Once he was sure, he pulled a small spade from his pack and began to dig.

Weeks ago, he had arrived with a team of Sanguinists tasked with accomplishing this very duty. But the pieces of evil unearthed here had threatened to master the others, to consume them fully. In the end, he had forced them to abandon the dig site and head back to Rome.

It seemed Rhun alone was capable of withstanding the evil buried here. But what does that say of my own soul?

He poured each shovelful of burning sand through a sieve, like a child at the beach. But this was not work for children. The sieve caught neither shells nor rocks. Instead, it captured teardrop-shaped bits of stone, black as obsidian.

The blood of Lucifer.

There are also two Novellas included with the Sanguines Series that are worth reading.
