The Seventh Plague: A Sigma Force Novel – by James Rollins

“If the Biblical Plagues of Egypt truly happened – could they happen again – on a global scale?” The answer to that is frightening … yes.

I’m a fan of the end of the world scenarios. What? I’m just saying. Of course, I always want the hero to come in and save it at the last minute. The Seventh plague: A Sigma Force Novel by James Rollins

I have read all the Sigma Force series, as well as his Tucker Wayne and Sanguines series. Can you tell am a huge fan? As with all the Sigma Force series novels, The Seventh Plague is filled with heart-stopping action, mystery, and suspense from the first page to the last.

I have come to love the main characters in this series, especially Monk and his wife Kat, Kowalski, Seichan, Gray, and Painter.

In the seventh plague, James Rollins blends science with a dose of historical mystery both from famous figures and the bible. If you are a reader of his books, then you know that he always gives us an education from facts within an enthralling story and this book is no different.

He’s a master of weaving scientific and historical data into his stories.

You’ll find a notes section at the back of his books on the thorough research that he did for the book. It’s always fun finding out which parts of the book is fact and which is fiction.

After reading The Seventh Plague, or I should say while reading it, I went back to the bible to check some things. Yes! James Rollins makes you do research and learn stuff about the topic in his books. Anyway, I wanted to check on the plagues that happened in the bible. I mean I knew what they were, I watched the movie Moses a million times, and I have read the bible. But I had to refresh myself on the matter of the ten plagues.

Now blending the biblical plagues of Egypt, with the modern world is something that was both fascinating and very, very disturbing to one’s psyche. A professor that knows how to mummify the body while still alive? No one should have such knowledge. Yikes!

The story begins in the Nubian Desert, South of Egypt, in the Spring of 1324 B.C. Where Sabah a high priestess readies herself to become a mortal vessel for God’s blessing. She holds the key to a cure hidden at the heart of a curse.

Which brings us to the present in the book. Out of the desert stumbles Professor Harold McCabe, the leader of an expedition that disappeared 2 years ago. He died before reaching the hospital, of at the moment an unknown disease. Now this disease has contaminated those who were in contact with the professor before and after his death. The disease quickly spreads throughout Cairo and beyond, threatening to become a global crisis.

Enter Sigma Force, after a call from Safia al-Maaz a colleague of the professor to Director Painter Crowe. Safia also happens to be an old love interest of Painter.

Sigma’s initial findings reveal that McCabe had been searching for proof of the biblical plagues from the days of Moses. As Sigma continues to investigate, they discover a mysterious group of assassins attempting to erase all evidence by killing and destroying everyone and everything in their path.

Painter sends Commander Gray Pierce and his team (Seichan, Monk, and Kowalski) to, well basically save the world.

With another set of plagues set to be released upon mankind by a mad genius, Painter and his group travels to a remote Arctic landscape to stop him.

This time around we are in for a treat, we meet famous figures Mark Twain, Nikola Tesla, and Henry Morgan Stanley for some historical details.

Boy! James Rollins knows how to get your pulse pounding and your hands sweating wondering what’s going to happen next.Whew! What ride this was.

Will the Sigma team members make it out of this story alive? Well, get going and start reading to find out.

If you are a fan of Ken Follet and or David Baldacci, you will definitely enjoy any and all works of James Rollins. Just saying!

These novels do not have to be read in order, to fully enjoy them. But it’s always great fun to start at the beginning. The first novel in the Sigma Force Series is Sand Storm.

The LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood.’ Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone.” – Exodus 7:19

A new Sigma novel The Demon Crown is set to be released December 5, 2017. I’m so excited! Woohoo!
