Book Adaptations

Stephen King Adaptations I’m excited to see! #Updates

There are so many Stephen King books being adapted to the big and small screen right now, these are the ones I’m most excited to see. I mean, really, really, really, excited to see, they are some of my favourite books.😊

Castle Rock

This TV series will actually be based in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. A town we often see in some of his books. Which means, we’ll get to see, characters from quite a few of his books in this series (e.g. Cujo, The Dark Half, IT). Check out the trailer.

Other than Hulu (no Hulu Canada), it will also be on CraveTV and Space. Thank goodness, so happy about that. 😍 😃 Premiere July 25, 2018.

As a Stephen King, Constant Reader fan. I can’t wait to see these adaptations on the big and small screen. There are a few more King books being adapted, but I just wanted to mention my favourites for now.

Doctor Sleep – Sequel to the Shining
Release Date: November 8, 2019

I’m so excited about the adaptation of this book coming to the big screen. Ewan McGregor plays the grown-up Danny Torrance.

Update

This is so exciting. More casting news for the Doctor Sleep movie. Carl Lumbly (Supergirl) will play the Dick Halloran character and Alex Essoe takes on the role of Wendy Torrance, these roles were previously played by Shelley Duvall and Scatman Crothers in The Shining.

Rebecca Ferguson will play Rose the Hat and Zahn McClarnon will play Crow Daddy. Ok so, these characters in the book, “dang” that’s all I’m going to say on that, but I can’t wait to see these characters come to life in the movie.

The casting for the character for Abra Stone is Kyliegh Curran. Abra is the badass teen with psychic abilities that rivals her uncle Danny Torrance. Can’t wait to see this character in action.😍

Ewan McGregor says the upcoming adaption of Doctor Sleep will be faithful to the book. If this is true then it will definitely be an awesome movie, in my opinion.

Full Cast and Crew for Doctor Sleep (2020)

Check out my book review on Doctor Sleep.

Synopsis

Struggling with alcoholism, Danny Torrance remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child. He soon finds a new purpose when he forms a psychic connection with a girl who shares his shining ability.

IT Chapter Two – Release September 5, 2019

The follow-up to the awesome and excellent first part of Stephen King’s It is coming September 2019. This is where we see the “Loser’s Club” kids now all grown up and returns for another nightmarish face to face with the demonic Pennywise the Clown. I’m so excited. 😃

An excellent list of actors has been cast to play the adults in this sequel. James McVoy (X-Men) will be a great Bill Denbrough.

Check out the full cast and crew.

Synopsis

Twenty-seven years later, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.

Pet Sematary – Release April 5, 2019

A remake is underway for this previous adaption, the first film was great, hopefully, this will be even better.  That kid was seriously scary when he came back to life, I mean let’s not tamper with the dead right?

Update

Okay! So we all remember the previous adaptation of Pet Sematary from 1989 right, was it scary for you guys? What did you think?

I’m hoping this one will be utterly terrifying. They deviated from the original character Gage being the one buried in the Pet Sematary, but let’s see how that goes.

The trailer looks oh so good. 😁😁

Synopsis

Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.

Check out the Trailer and let me know your thoughts

Main Cast

Jason Clarke – Louis Creed

Amy Seimetz – Rachel Creed

John Lithgow – Jud Crandall

Jeté Laurence – Ellie Creed

Hugo Lavoie – Gage Creed

The Bill Hodges – Trilogy

Source: The Big Smoke

I read this trilogy and it was absolutely amazing, it’s a dark, twisted, psychological and supernatural and in some ways, a mind-bending read. In the first book Mr. Mercedes;  a retired detective (Bill Hodges) begins receiving messages from someone, Brady Hartsfield (asshole) claiming to be the person who killed and injured those people standing in line at a job fair using a Mercedes.

Read Finders Keepers, and get acquainted with a new villain: Morris Bellamy, a dissatisfied reader, and fanatic turned murderer. And finally, End of Watch the last in the trilogy, where we are back to Brady Hartsfield, where we see the supernatural or is it, at work.

The TV series is amazing, check it out if you haven’t already, on Super Channel and the Audience Network.

Update

It has been greenlighted for its third season.

The Dark Tower

Source: Consequence of Sound

Yay! Amazon is adapting The Dark Tower as a TV series, Roland’s original story will be told in this first season; his first adventure as a young gunslinger along with his friends (OMGosh I’m so excited) and how and why he became a gunslinger at such a young age, even younger than when his father became a gunslinger. Sound like the first season will be adapted from the fourth book in the series, Wizard and Glass.

The leads for Roland Deschain will be played by Sam Strike (Nightflyers) and Marten-The Man in Black; will be played by Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings and BlacKkKlansman).

Filming begins in April 2019

The Stand

Another epic fantasy novel that is a part of the Dark Tower, of course, we know that there are many Stephen King books linked in one form or another. Which I just love. This was done as a TV miniseries back in the 90s.

The Stand explores an apocalyptic world ravaged by a mass outbreak of Influenza that wipes out 99% of the population in a matter of weeks, scary much.

Looks like it’s going to be on a streaming service, I’m down with binge-watching it though. It will be a 10-episodes series on CBS All Access streaming service.

Currently in development.

The Outsider

I just read this book which was released in May 2018. And already there’s talk of a movie. Let me just say that this book was frigging scary. If the movie is made as an R-rated version, be prepared to have your mind twisted with this murder mystery with a supernatural twist. This will be made for TV as a limited series. It’s binge-watching time!

Update

HBO will be adapting The Outsider with a 10-episode series. Rogue One star Ben Mendelsohn will star in the adaptation.

The Outsider Cast

Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) – Detective Ralph Anderson.

Cynthia Erivo (Bad Times at the El Royale) – Holly Gibney

Bill Camp (The Looming Tower) – Howie Gold

Mare Winningham (George Wallace) – Jeannie Anderson

Paddy Considine (The Ferryman) – Claude Bolton

Julianne Nicholson (Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders) – Mercy Maitland

Yul Vázquez (I Am the Night) – Yunis Sablo

Jeremy Bobb (The Knick) – Alec Pelley

Marc Menchaca (Ozark) – Jack Hoskins

Hettienne Park (Hannibal) – Tomika Collins

Premiering in 2020

The Talisman

Jack Sawyer a 12-year-old, who embarks on an epic quest to find the talisman that will save his dying mother. Stephen King and Peter Straub co-wrote this novel and the sequel Black House.

I loved this book, there are of course pieces linked to the Dark Tower that is so exciting to me, of course, I’m obsessed with the Dark Tower books so there’s that.

Update

The Talisman is being adapted for the big screen by Amblin Entertainment.

This post will be updated with current information when available.

  1. I really haven’t ventured too far into Mr king’s back catalogue, but I can say for certain, I am hoping that on Roland’s next round trip, the dark tower adaption lives up to energy of the books.

The Phrase “Go now, there are other worlds than these” really seems to make sense now, don’t you think?

  3. Oooh so many cool adaptations! I’m most excited for IT2 and Pet Sematary remake, honestly Zelda freaked me out the most in this one, so I’m terrified at what they’ll do with her with today’s technology. :S Have you started on Castle Rock? I love it so much!

  4. Clearly, you have read a great deal more Stephen King than I have! That said, I’m looking forward to the 2nd part of It. I actually didn’t watch the first because, just like with books in a series, I don’t like to dive in until it’s all available. But my friend keeps telling me that Castle Rock is amazing, so I should probably start watching it. Great post!

Ya I think Watching Castle Rock each week built up the tension for me, made it even more intriguing that way.
